The New York dance music producer/DJ, born Andrew Lustman, used to be a sushi chef, a profession that he says taught him important lessons in patience and focus, which he now applies to making tunes and beats.

“The irony is that I’m a pretty antsy, fidgety person,” says Lustman from his New York home. “I get bored really easily.”

His new album, Love Is A Liability (Planet Mu), is full of deep-house grooves and jungle’s dark, driving energy, resulting in an immersive listening experience that’s left critics scratching their heads, even after four EPs.

“Everyone wants to compare [my work] to something,” says Lustman. “I wouldn’t know what to call it either, but I sink my heart and soul into it.”

Expect to hear house, 2-step, UK garage and a bit of jungle when FaltyDL tears up Wrongbar tonight.

An accomplished musician, he spent eight years playing bass and three years producing and DJing, which he admits he’s still developing.

“I used to play for myself,” he says, with a laugh. “But I’ve gotten much better at working the dance floor.”
