Sage who also happen to be highly motivated entrepreneurs shouldn't really be attending music-business seminars. They should be giving them.
The over-achieving Stanford grad -- inspired by Ani DiFranco's do-it-yourself chutzpah -- has just released her third independent album, Painting Of A Painting, on her own MPress label and is now beginning to break beyond the cozy Lilith clique.
"I've been filling out all these forms and sending them out priority post, so I was just thrilled to find out that I made it into Canadian Music Week. There have been so many amazing Canadian musicians -- particularly women artists -- who've inspired me that I'm really looking forward to playing in Toronto and checking out the current scene."
The 27-year-old piano poet's taste for flashy self-painted threads earned Sage the sobriquet of "das glitter frau" on a recent tour through Germany. Winning the hearts and minds of Canadians appears to be next on her things-to-do list.
"When I looked at the CMW Web site (www.cmw.net), there seemed to be a lot of artists I've never heard of, which makes it that much more exciting for me. I never know what I'm getting myself into with these music conferences, but afterwards I'm always glad I went.
"You get to meet so many fabulous people who are experiencing the same things you are from a different angle. So, hopefully I can connect with some like-minded artists who I might be able to do some gigs with in the future."
