The Audreys
at the Dakota (249 Ossington), tonight (Thursday, March 6), 10 pm and the Cameron (408 Queen West), Saturday (March 8), 11 pm.
Who: Australia’s finest alt-country exports, led by fab frontwoman Taasha Coates and her guitar-picking sidekick Tristan Goodall, whose impressive Between Last Night And Us album was picked up for Canadian release by True North.
Why: Despite their Antipodean origins, the Audreys write classic country tunes that wouldn’t sound out of place in a honky-tonk bar. Backed by a formidable supporting cast adept with fiddles, banjos and lap steels, these Adelaide aces aren’t afraid to get twangy.
Buzz factor: Their 2007 ARIA Award in the best blues and roots album category for Between Last Night And Us wasn’t a fluke, and the Audreys have spent months working on the follow-up to prove it. Their bid to finally crack North America begins this week with their highly anticipated CMW showcases.
