TONY TOUCH

TONY TOUCH The Piece Maker, Vol. 2 (Koch) Rating: NNN

Rating: NNN

The respected mix tape vet has put together a Kochified sequel to his 2000 release, and although The Piece Maker is no Empire Strikes Back, it’s pretty good, with a solid lineup of veteran East Coast MCs. Anybody familiar with Touch’s flow will be somewhat under-hyped to hear that he’s rapping all over this, but he’s improved enough that he no longer smells up songs. He also doesn’t cater to the popular rappers of the day, working with cohorts Large Professor, Juju, Masta Ace, Erick Sermon, Dead Prez and fellow rapping DJ Doo Wop. A good faux mix tape, with highlight verses from Keith Murray, Slick Rick and Raekwon, who provides a memorable line on Rock Steady when he constantly repeats, “Been selling crack.”
