One lucky artist or group could be chosen to incorporate one of their pieces into an area at Islington Avenue and Dundas Street West.

The City of Toronto is holding the competition to decorate a section of a parkette at the intersection.

The city is looking for professional individual artists or a group of professional artists to submit an application in the first step of the competition. They must complete a form, expressing their interest in the project and explaining why they believe their art should be chosen for the job.

Then, artwork will be chosen through a two-round competition, where successful applicants would have been chosen by the city.

When it comes to artificial intelligence (AI) used for the artwork, the city cautions to tread lightly.

“Applicants are encouraged to consider potential risks associated with these technologies which may include data protection and intellectual property breaches, bias, and the submission of identical answers between different applications” the city stated in the application. “Please be sure to revise the content to ensure the application still reflects your unique proposal and that the language used is adjusted to be tailored to your needs.”

The project has a projected budget of around $245,000.00 plus HST. The amount will cover fees for design, fabrication, installation, engineering, professional services, insurance, travel and other related expenses.

The deadline for artists to submit their application is May 15 at 12 p.m.
