Six people have been arrested in connection with a Brampton investigation into stolen butter products valued at $60,000.
Investigators from the 22 Division Criminal Investigation Bureau (CIB) have arrested and charged six individuals in a theft investigation in Brampton, according to Peel Regional Police (PRP).
This comes after, last December, the police service became aware of a significant increase in thefts of butter and ghee, a type of clarified butter, from grocery stores in Peel. Police say the stolen products were worth more than $60,000.
In a release, PRP said that in 2024 butter and ghee thefts were up nearly 135 per cent compared to the year prior, with more than 180 incidents reported to police.
To combat the issue, police established Project Flaherty, and as a result, three people were charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, including:
- Vishavjeet Singh, a 22-year-old man of no fixed address
- Sukmander Singh, a 23-year-old man from Brampton
- Dalwal Sidhu, a 28-year-old man from Brampton
Police also charged three other men with Theft Under $5,000, including:
- Navdeep Chaudhary, a 22-year-old man from Brampton
- Kamaldeep Singh, a 38-year-old man of no fixed address
- Harkerat Singh, a 25-year-old man of no fixed address
The six men will appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton at a later date.
The investigation into these instances of stolen butter is ongoing, and officers are looking into which businesses are accepting the stolen goods.

Butter thefts are not new in southern Ontario. Back in October 2024, police in Guelph were investigating a string of similar instances in their region, where thousands of dollars worth of butter was stolen from various stores.
