Entertainment Tonight Canada is ending after airing for nearly two decades.

Corus Entertainment announced the shut down of the daily entertainment show Wednesday afternoon.

“The costs of producing a daily entertainment newsmagazine show in a challenging advertising environment have led to this decision. We recognize the impact this decision has on the dedicated team who have worked on the show and we thank them for their meaningful contributions over the years,” Corus said in a news release.

Corus is the parent company of ET Canada and Global News.

As a result of the show ending, the entire ET Canada team will be laid off, according to a Corus spokesperson.

“The end of production of Entertainment Tonight Canada will result in the exit of the full team including hosts and we thank everyone for their time working on the show.  We are unable to provide more comment or detail on personnel matters,” the spokesperson said in a statement to Now Toronto.

ET Canada’s website and social media platforms will also be shut down, the spokesperson said. Corus added that there are no plans for future entertainment shows.

ET Canada host Cheryl Hickey reacted to the news on her Instagram story saying, “I am heavy hearted for our team.”

“I love these people full stop past and present team/family members. So today I am going (to) sit and look back at moments that fill my heart with the joy and laughter that will always hold a special place in my heart. We have 7 shows left and I will have more to share over the coming days,” she added.

The one-hour show began airing in 2005 and focuses on entertainment and cultural news. The show airs weeknights on Global TV at 7:30 p.m. EST.

ET Canada’s final episode will air on Oct. 6, with a series of Entertainment Tonight Canada encore specials airing in the same time slot on Global until Oct. 31.
