Toronto has come alive this weekend with tourists visiting the city to check out what it has to offer alongside the fourth most prestigious film festival in the world.
There are many events to check out around the city, from multiple festivals to standalone concerts. Residents and visitors can fill their time in between films with much more to do.
Here’s everything to check out.
Friday, Sept. 11
Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF)
Where: Multiple venues
One of the city’s biggest events began this week, bringing thousands to the downtown area and hundreds of films and productions to watch.
TIFF brings movies and shorts of multiple genres and production values to the big screen, with many premiering for the first time, allowing fans to get the opportunity to be one of the first to watch. This might even be able to catch a glimpse of a visiting celebrity or two.
The 10-day-long event will run through the weekend and the next, ending on Sept. 20.
Taste of the Kingsway
Where: Bloor Street West, from Prince Edward Drive to Montgomery Street
Enjoy a weekend of delicious food, live music, and family-friendly activations at South Etobicoke’s largest annual street festival.
The community celebration will transform Bloor Street West into a vibrant spot, with dog shows, bouncy castles, a car show, and performances by Voodoo Lounge: the Rolling Stone Experience, Bon Jovi Forever, and Practically Hip, among others. There are also meet-and-greets with retired NHL players Rick Vaive and Shayne Corson.
The event runs all weekend, giving residents a new experience daily.
Jazz Night at Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada
Where: Ripley’s Aquarium of Canada, 288 Bremner Blvd
Head over to the biggest aquarium in the city, as it transforms into an underwater concert venue.
Experience a live jazz band, cocktails, and other beverages, all with a beautiful aquatic backdrop.
This monthly event is taking over the aquarium for September’s session on Friday.
Saturday, Sept. 12
Cabbagetown Festival
Where: Parliament Street (from Gerrard St. to Wellesley St.), and Carlton Street (from Parliament St. to Sherbourne St.)
More than 250 local vendors and live entertainment will take over Cabbagetown for its annual festival this weekend.
The free-to-attend event will give residents and other attendees two days of incredible food, street performances, outdoor games and other activations. The festival will also showcase various live entertainment, including DJ sets, Indigenous performers, blues and rock bands, instrumental ensembles, and more.
This time around will be the 47th year of the annual Cabbagetown Festival.
Liberty Village Art Crawl
Where: The Bentway, 250 Fort York Blvd
A special one-day anniversary edition of the Liberty Village Art Crawl is taking over the Bentway on Saturday.
Celebrate 13 years of creativity as the event showcases 120 talented local vendors. View multiple vendors and their products, including Toronto-made art, fashion, jewellery, home décor, photography, body care, pet accessories, paintings, and more.
The Wizard of Oz: Film with Live Orchestra
Where: Meridian Hall, 1 Front Street East
Enjoy watching one of the biggest classics in movie history with a full orchestra alongside it.
The event will present the audience with brilliantly restored images from the movie, with the orchestra playing new transcriptions of Harold Arlen’s lost scores. They’ll also be able to hear Judy Garland’s original 1939 studio recordings, transporting the crowd to a different time.
The production plays on Saturday and Sunday, with tickets starting at $54.50.
Sunday, Sept 13
Jumpstart Community Pitch
Where: Harbourfront Centre, 235 Queens Quay W
Sunday will see the opening of the first Canadian Tire Jumpstart Charities Community Soccer Pitch.
The event aims to create a new free and accessible space for kids and families to come together, allowing participants to borrow free soccer balls at the pitch on an honour system. The pitch is part of Canadian Tire’s initiative to build 25 inclusive community soccer pitches across Canada by 2029.
The pitch opens Sunday at 8 a.m.
Fitness Festival 2026
Where: 10XTO Athletic Club, 107 Princes’ Blvd
Some of Toronto’s fitness community is set to come together Sunday for a morning dedicated to staying active, with moving, recovering, and reconnecting.
Guests can kick off the morning with an optional pre-festival 3K run before the main event gets underway. Between workouts, attendees can explore recovery activations as well as refreshments, functional nutrition, product samples, and take-home surprises.
Guests are asked to bring their own mat, towel, and reusable water bottle.
Harvest Market
Where: The Parkdale Hall, 1605 Queen St W Ste 3
Toronto Sunday Market’s Harvest Market is set to ring in the autumnal season slightly early.
Attendees can check out a lineup of local food vendors and artisans, bringing a variety of treats, art, and knick-knacks to the city.
The market is free to enter, but spots are filling up fast, so reserve your place as soon as possible.
