Changes are coming to the GO Transit network. Starting today, Metrolinx is introducing more rush hour trips to Union Station and opening a brand-new station in Hamilton.

These service enhancements are part of Metrolinx’s ongoing efforts to make train travel across the region more efficient and reliable.

Here’s what’s changing, line by line.

LAKESHORE WEST

The most notable change is the launch of the Confederation GO Station in Hamilton. Beginning Monday, Oct. 27 all Lakeshore West trips to and from Niagara Falls will stop at the new station.

Seven trips will be extended to and from West Harbour GO, and six more will be extended to and from Appleby GO. GO bus routes 11 and 12 will also connect to the station.

The station itself features modern commuter-friendly amenities: a fully-accessible platform, covered canopies, 148 parking spaces, 15 pick-up and drop-off spots, and direct pedestrian access from Centennial Parkway.

Weekend Niagara Falls service is also expanding starting Nov. 1. Four trains will run each way between Union Station and Niagara Falls on Saturdays and Sundays, for a total of eight trips in each direction.

Departure times from Union will be 9:04 a.m., 11:09 a.m., 5:07 p.m. and 7:22 p.m., while trains from Niagara Falls will leave at 11:58 a.m., 4:00 p.m., 7:58 p.m. and 10:04 p.m. The weekend schedule is now standardized across both days to make planning easier.

LAKESHORE EAST

Commuters in Durham Region will also see more trains during peak hours. Three new morning trips will depart from Durham College Oshawa and two trips from Whitby GO stations toward Union Station, while three new afternoon trips will run in the opposite direction back to Whitby.

BARRIE

On the Barrie line, a new morning train will depart from Aurora GO Station at 7:20 a.m. and arrive at Union Station at 8:14 a.m. An additional afternoon train will leave Union Station at 4:53 p.m., giving northbound commuters more options during the evening rush.

STOUFVILLE

Riders on the Stouffville line will get a new morning train departing Unionville GO Station at 7:59 a.m., arriving at Union Station at 8:40 a.m. A new afternoon trip from Union back to Unionville is scheduled for 4:50 p.m.

Metrolinx is also adjusting train schedules on this line to better reflect real travel times and reduce delays.

RICHMOND HILL

Metrolinx is also making changes to the Richmond Hill line. All southbound trips will now depart up to seven minutes earlier. The goal is to ease congestion heading into Union Station during peak times and improve overall reliability.

Riders are encouraged to double check departure times ahead of their next trip to avoid surprises.
