Next stop: Stratford, Ontario! The provincial government has announced it will extend GO Transit service to the city beginning this summer.
On Friday, the province confirmed that service on the Kitchener Line will be extended to Stratford starting July 6.
As part of the expansion, the line will offer one daily round trip between Stratford and Toronto. Weekday service will include a morning departure from Stratford to Union Station, with a return trip in the afternoon.
Weekend service is designed to support visitors heading to Stratford for tourism, particularly the world-renowned Stratford Festival. This will include a morning departure from Union Station to Stratford, with a return trip in the evening.
“Bringing GO service to Stratford will make it easier for people to travel to Toronto for work, school and tourism, while also giving Ontarians and visitors a convenient new way to experience Stratford’s world-class attractions and culture,” said Transportation Minister Prabmeet Sarkaria in a news release.
Previously, train service on the Kitchener Line was extended to London, with stops in St. Marys and Stratford, as part of a pilot project that ran from 2021 to 2023.
The announcement builds on recent expansions to the Kitchener Line, including the introduction of the first-ever weekend train service between Toronto and Kitchener, as well as two new weekday express trips between Kitchener and Union Station.
These expansions are part of the province’s broader $70 billion investment in transit infrastructure.
