‘Grocery greedflation:’ Jagmeet Singh wants CEOs to testify in Parliament

The NDP wants to set forth a motion that will compel grocery chain CEOs to testify in Parliament and discuss food costs, a conversation that has plagued news headlines amid inflation.    

According to NDP leader Jagmeet Singh, CEOs owe Canadians an explanation regarding the price they pay to keep food on the table.

“You deserve answers,” he tweeted on Monday.

“Jagmeet Singh and the NDP are standing with Canadians who deserve answers from the big CEOs profiting off of Grocery Greedflation,” the NDP’s website reads.

“[They] are making more money than ever, and working Canadians are the ones asked to make sacrifices to pay exorbitant prices for our food.”

According to the party, the least CEOs can do is show up and be transparent on why they’re allegedly getting richer while everyday Canadians cut back on groceries.Families could spend over $16,000 on food this year and 38 per cent of Canadians say they are “losing ground” when it comes to their money and feel like they are out of options.
