Happening NOW: January 22, 2010

What’s happening January 22, 2010:

Michael Schmidt, the Ontario dairy farmer who’s been producing unpasteurized (raw) milk for 20 years, only to be charged for making the tasty and beneficial drink in 2006, has been cleared. He and his co-op can now go back to making milk the old school way.

“It’s gone viral!” The phrase can make your blood boil, but apparently so can a photo of a TTC fare collector taking a very public and premeditated (note the blocked window) nap. The TTC is investigating. The man has become a lightning rod for transit service rants – you have to feel sorry for him if he’s fired, and if he’s not, well, expect more ranting.

Also going viral: the norovirus. It’s taking its annual swing through Canada, and as one of the unconfirmed Toronto cases (still waiting for tests to come back) I can tell you it’s not something you want.

Political nobody Rocco Rossi made a speech to the Empire Club the other day promising to halt Transit City, eliminate bike lanes, sell Toronto Hydro, outsource city services, give money to developers and ban intelligent government. Not the last one (explicitly). But seriously, this guy has definitely decided he wants to be Mr. right-wing.

Finally, this is probably a lot cuter if your kid is involved, but the stop motion animations created by youth at NFB’s Mediatheque during Toronto’s WinterCity Festival are really endearing.[rssbreak]
