Happening NOW: June 2, 2010

What’s happening June 2, 2010:

It’s suspected a tropical storm is behind a crazy sinkhole in Guatemala City that basically looks like a 20m deep portal to hell.

In oil disaster news, BP’s CEO asks, “what the hell did we do to deserve this?” as the U.S. government presses charges and BP loses $70 bil in share value.

He needs to see the Australian mock “Front Fell Off” interview.

Sticking with oil, there’s a map app that lets you place the spreading oil slick over whatever part of the Earth helps you understand its scale.

With BP failing with every clean up attempt, perhaps they should stop just pulling out their hair and start using it to clean.

Mashable revealed a Firefox plugin that lets you get away from all the BP news, sort of. It converts each mention of the company and its disaster into a slick little on screen spill.

Finally, the Association of Alternative Newsweeklies has released its 2010 award finalists and NOW is in the running for Best Editorial Layout for our Earth Day issue and for Innovation, Enzo DiMatteo’s Black History Quiz.
