Happening NOW: June 7, 2010

What’s happening June 7, 2010:

Twenty-five years on and seven people from India’s arm of Union Carbide are finally going to jail after killing thousands in an industrial gas leak. The sentence? A measly two years in jail and a few thousand in fines for leaking 36 tons of methyl isocyanate gas.

Makes you wonder if anyone at BP is getting set to sit in prison for a while as this gusher keeps spilling.

Back in T.O., a perimeter fence is going up to protect G20 guests from us. Further checkpoints for cars are coming. Doesn’t look like any razor wire’s going on there, so the 2.5m enclosure isn’t as intimidating as it could be. Maybe you can still grab that Steamwhistle?

Vanishing this year – Yellow Pages. The huge paper directory won’t be dropped on your front steps (if you live in a major Canadian city) unless you call and ask. Turns out only 30 per cent of people who were tossed the yellow brick actually used it.

Forget sleepwalking, sleepsex is actually a thing. A Toronto study says 8 per cent of people studied (who were already attending a sleep clinic – so reflect a higher percentage than in the general population) had sex with people while sleeping (sexsomnia).

Finally, tune into CBC Radio’s (FM 99.1) The Current at 9:15 am today to hear NOW CEO Alice Klein discuss a Liberal – NDP team up.[rssbreak]
