Happening NOW: March 17, 2010

What’s happening March 17, 2010:

The Conservative MPP for Bruce-Grey-Owen Sound, Bill Murdoch, is suggesting Toronto become a city state, er, province. Sure, places like Owen Sound might not see the steady bleeding from Toronto’s pockets the way, say, Mississauga does, but this issue has more to do with coyote slaughters and our presumed bleeding hearts on that issue. Here’s hoping this yokel (just using my Toronto-centric mentality there) gets his wish and we can finally have some control over taxation.

The least exciting YouTube video you’re going to see today? Stephen Harper shifting uncomfortably for forty minutes as he tries to answer misspelled online questions. If your stomach is strong, jump to minute 35 or so to hear his non-answer to the concept of legalizing marijuana. It skirts the issue, puts blame on cartels and suggests a legal pot biz would still be a unsavory underworld. Yawn.

The question I want answered by the PM is: “When will you fire that disgrace, Helena Guergis?” The tantrum-throwing, lawsuit-threatening minister might also be lying about her education, says the Hill Times.

Well, Tiger Woods (I think he’s a golfer) is bringing his celebrity skills back to the Masters.

Finally, Salon has an interesting story on how unemployed hipsters are living on food stamps and shopping at Whole Foods. The big question being: do you have to buy shitty food if you’re on the dole, or as the story cynically interprets, “Is it wrong to believe there should be a local, free-range chicken in every Le Creuset pot?”[rssbreak]
