Happening NOW: March 22, 2010

What’s happening March 22, 2010:

It’s going to be hard for you to miss this one, but the U.S. medical coverage bill just squeaked by 219-212. Sure, it doesn’t do much for us, but don’t you feel a little better knowing social justice in our neighbour state just took a step forward regardless of the non-stop efforts of partisan Republican haters to derail health care for millions of their own citizens?

But, America still has its problems, like the ones that make ex-NATO commander John Sheehan suggest gay Dutch soldiers were part of the reason Bosnian Serbs were able to conduct the massacre in Srebrenica.

Cyclists will be interested in trying out Ride the City, which is basically Google Maps with bikes in mind. The site, developed by ex-NYU Planning students, gives you a route that can be adjusted for safety, identifies lanes, and allows user feedback. Considering it’s new and yet to be put through Toronto cyclists’ experiences, it still looks really strong.

U of T Scarborough students blew it the other day, with 64 per cent voting to pay an extra $40 per semester ($120 per semester in 5 years) to build the Pan Am Games’ Aquatic Centre. The thing would have had to be built anyway, but hey, why not let students shoulder more costs.

Finally, do you like owls? Do you like skateboarding? Then you’ll love the skateboarding owl. Seriously, one of the cutest things ever, and there’s ever a Tony Hawk joke in this story.[rssbreak]
