Happening NOW: March 23, 2010

What’s happening March 23, 2010:

Let’s look at a few sell-offs this morning. First, Toronto Life Square 10 Dundas East was sold earlier this month to a Kansas City investment company called Entertainment Properties Trust for $240 mil. They were quoted liking the potential for signage income, because Toronto knows you can’t want it for aesthetics.

Meanwhile, Gothamist – once the parent company of local blog Torontoist – but now kind-of, but not really, affiliated because of a financial shift at Torontoist last April, has sold for $5-6 million to Cablevision. It remains to be seen if TOist feels like it dodged a sell-out bullet or missed a big buyout windfall/future moneybags/a nice office like Gawker’s.

And, as mentioned on said ist, a practical non-player in the resale car business is apparently offering nearly $80 mil for naming rights of the CN Tower. They want to call it VG Tower. I will soon be offering $81 million to clad it in gold and rename it Goldens Tower, because that’s just as likely and took about as much time to concoct and execute as the crappy Photoshop rendering seen above.

Activists fighting Coca Cola have won a small victory in India. The company, which has been depleting groundwater and polluting, was fined $47 mil. The plant responsible was closed in 2005, but Coke still has over 50 other plants around the country. Oh, and they obviously denied doing anything wrong.

Finally, anyone applying for a role in the fourth Pirates (of the Caribbean) film can’t have fake breasts. “WHHHAA,” says lonely guy in his basement. Fear not, flesh-ionados – this isn’t about Pirates, the super-famous porn.[rssbreak]
