What’s happening May 12, 2010:

Anyone fearing for Bixi’s plan to bring 1,000 bike-share bikes to Toronto will be happy to hear the motion to sponsor it with $600,000 “for each of the first three years” enter into a contract to provide bikes around the city passed 33-8. Among other criteria, the $600,000 amount is what Bixi needs to find in private funds. Naysayers: Ainslie, Del Grande, Ford, Holyday, Minnan-Wong, Nunziata, Ootes, and Thompson.

Habitat for Humanity hosted a mayoral debate at OISE last night, with the Post suggesting Rob Ford, as “I’m fed up guy”, was the highlight – his simplicity (and clarity) apparently resonated.

Speaking of out-of-touch grumps, Andy Rooney’s Lady Gaga rant on 60 Minutes a few days back has prompted Time to list (and link to) his top ten ridiculous complaints.

The UN has released a biodiversity report (Global Biodiversity Outook pdf) that suggests the destruction of ancient forests is at a 20-year low. Are we just running out? Also, pests like Canada Geese get blamed for upsetting nature’s balance. Which should make you think hard before pushing for them to be our national bird. Go loon!
