Happening NOW: May 18, 2010

What’s happening May 18, 2010:

It’s hard listening to the province whine about lack of funds then cut Transit City all while they’re too incompetent to collect over $1 billion in traffic fines.

Meanwhile U of T is implementing a text rental program. Considering the thousands spent on books in an undergrad run, this could help cut costs. The rental fee for a new book will be roughly 40 per cent of its cover price. Whether that’s cheaper than a used book you can resell is another question.

The Toronto District School Board has a $7 million art collection hidden from public view? Yes. And they’re finally realizing that the works, Group of Seven included, might be of interest to public eyes.

Hey wait, you mean people can take over streets? Sure we already have street closures and Pedestrian Sundays in Kensington, but take a look at how the global Ciclovia movement moves. It’s basically the same idea we’ve already seen in TO street closures, but there are plenty of organizational nuggets in their planning instructions.

A new NDP bill forcing drivers to give cyclists 3 feet while passing could help make the streets less car-crazy too.

Finally, here’s hoping all you agelasts get a cachinnation fit from this list of unusual words (via Boing Boing). Just don’t use them in conversation. You’ll sound like a jerk.[rssbreak]
