Happening NOW: Nov. 2, 2009

Good morning, and welcome to the first of what will be a daily mash-up of web highlights appearing on NOW Daily in the am. Happening NOW will be a fluid roundup of news, music, art, personal airings, and occasionally, Craigslist posts.

So why not start with a Craigslist item. A cyclist is reaching out to the general public in the hopes of tracking down a witness in an alleged cab attack. The poster was on Dundas heading west to Ossington at around 1:45 when he or she was struck by the taxi. Apparently someone was in the cab. If you’re that special someone, you’ve got a missed connection waiting.

At city hall, Mayor Miller is announcing the launch of the city’s open data website as part of the Toronto Innovation Showcase. If you’re wondering what’s new with MS Office, pondering the future of open cities, or figuring out Blackberry shortcuts – guess what – there’s a seminar for that.

Proud Ontarians will be happy (or annoyed) to discover that our noble province has enough hipster cred to be a trending New York City bar simply named “Ontario”.

Fans of Terminator and Terminator 2 might get really excited to hear that the once honourable franchise is going up for auction. Alas, the sale does not cover the films that actually made the Terminator name worth something.

Halloween crime is always a little bizarre. I’m not talking about the horror of costumed walks-of-shame or “I’m a slut” creative ensembles, I mean the gun toting Teletubby of London, Ontario, who remains at large.

Equally odd and creepy, feet are still washing up on the shores of British Columbia. Somewhat related: if you stole a silicone foot that belonged to artist Yuula Benivolski‘s Halloween installation at the White House, email the House or simply drop the foot off and she might reign in the focused negative energies about to fuck you up.

Even if you’re not getting a flu shot, the notion that private clinics are giving their paying patients a jump on H1N1 shots. Now that’s tier mongering.[rssbreak]
