Happening NOW: Nov. 5, 2009

What’s happening on Thursday, November 5, 2009.

Well, it’s settled. McSweeney’s has figured out how newspapers can work in the 21stcentury. The down side is it took them five months to put out the single issue and they’re never going to do it again. Maybe they can blame downsizing and outsourcing.

Today’s a Day of Action for a poverty-free Ontario. U of T students are meeting at 1 pm at Sid Smith Hall. If you’re worried about missing classes, profs and TAs have apparently been instructed not to penalize missing students. The general public is invited to join students at Convocation Hall at 2 pm, then march to Queen’s Park, where a 4 pm rally is planned.

The fanatical gun lobby delivered a blow to the gun registry.

Dirty campaigns against rural non-Con MPs helped cripple the long gun registry and just made everyone in this city a little less safe. No shock that Harper hates Toronto, but now he’s actually trying to kill us.

It’s pretty obvious we’ve been getting less daylight, which naturally has you thinking of the problems with solar power, right? Well, some rocket scientists (really) has been devising a way to use salt to store solar power when it’s cloudy or dark.

Lastly two hilarious road incidents: a Halton man gets a ticket for speeding, argues that his radar detector didn’t notice the cop’s radar, and gets a second ticket for having a radar detector. Over in Ohio, a Halloween reveler predicted his future when he dressed up as a breathalyzer and was then arrested on suspicion of drunk driving.[rssbreak]
