Things haven’t been easy on Torontonians in recent months thanks to inflation and the rising cost of living. And now, pets are starting to bear the brunt of their human’s circumstances.

Last week, a dog was left abandoned by his owner along with a note that said they could no longer care for him due to their financial situation.

The Toronto Humane Society (THS) shared the story on various social media platforms and said that the dog, named Max, was left in the Primrose Avenue Parkette area last Monday.

The note, which was hand-written in bullet point form, shared some insight on the dog in the event that he found a new home.

The letter said Max would turn four years old in June, is very smart, good with kids and an overall “good boy.”

The owner also shared that the reason they could no longer care for Max was because they lost their job, as well as their apartment.

“Take care of him,” the note read.

The THS uploaded a video in the hopes of reuniting the abandoned dog with his family.

“With rising costs and inflation affecting everyday expenses, many of us are just one crisis away from being unable to care for ourselves and for our pets,” the organization said in a video posted to Twitter.

Right now, Max has been enrolled in the group’s urgent care program and will live with a foster family until they can figure out the next steps.

The program is intended to support families who need a temporary break from their pets due to personal circumstances.

Now, the organization wants to find his family so they can reunite them with Max and help them care for the dog, despite their financial issues. They said that Max, despite being an “incredible” dog, is feeling anxious and lost without his parents.
