A woman in Calgary found herself in the middle of a heated exchange with a man at the gym and it was all caught on camera.

TikTok user Kyla Diaz (@Fitbykyla) posted a video to her social media platforms that shows a man threatening to break her phone if he’s in the background of her video recording.

The confrontation, that went down at a GoodLife Fitness in Calgary Beacon Hill, quickly escalated when the man started swearing at Diaz in which she swiftly gave him the same energy he came with.

And after all was (nastily) said and done, the man walked away.

Diaz’s video, posted to both Instagram and TikTok, garnered over 900,000 views as of publication and that’s without any reshares of the video.

For example, X account Crazy Clips re-posted the video which has amassed nearly 18 million views to date.

The whole situation sparked a debate online about gym etiquette and whether or not people should be allowed to record themselves while others are working out.

As you can imagine, people had different opinions.

“What if he just wanted to have a quiet workout without ending up on TikTok?” one user asked.

“He didn’t have to come at her so aggressive[ly] if the camera was bothering him,” another user pointed out.

GoodLife says it doesn’t condone this type of behaviour at its clubs.

“GoodLife Fitness is dedicated to fostering an environment where everybody can feel safe and respected, and we require everyone in our clubs to meet that expectation. We have strict guidelines around member behaviour,” GoodLife Fitness’s Vice President of Experience & Safety Tracy Matthews told Now Toronto in an email.

“We take any form of disrespect or mistreatment very seriously, and we ask people in our clubs to report any issues to a GoodLife staff member so we can investigate fully and address the concerns.”
