Meta has launched its highly-anticipated Threads app and millions of users have already signed up on the social media platform.
On Wednesday evening, the app went live on Apple and Android app stores. Within hours, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said in a thread that at least 30 million people had joined the app.
Threads is considered a text-based conversation app that encourages users to engage and discuss trending topics.
Similar to Twitter, users can post threads of up to 500 characters, like, quote, share and repost “threads.” To join, users must download the app and login using their Instagram account. From there, they will be given the option to follow the same accounts they do on their Instagram.

In honour of the release and as an attempt to troll Twitter owner Elon Musk, Zuckerberg posted his first tweet since 2012. The tweet was a photo of the popular Spiderman meme where two Spidermans are pointing at each other, an obvious jab at Twitter.
Since the launch of Threads, the reactions from social media users have been endless.
Thread user @brandon_haye said, “Me checking Threads every minute to make sure I don’t miss anything.”
Another user said, “I was never a Twitter guy but I might be a Threads one.”
Meanwhile, on Twitter users have chosen to continue using both apps.
On the other hand, many users are criticizing the app and its connection to a user’s Instagram followers.
