No debate needed to crown Mel mayor

Rating: NNNNN

POLITICS

Is a Mel coronation such a foregone conclusion that there won’t even be any mayoral debates before V-day? It’s certainly shaping up that way.

“I’ve heard nothing, and it’s a real concern,” says mayoral hopeful Tooker Gomberg.

Mel’s campaign spokesperson, Simon Dwyer, says he hasn’t heard anything either.

Of course, Mel got his moose kicked by Barbara Hall in the debates last time so his camp probably isn’t bucking for a public showdown.

The Toronto Star, which usually stages one of the more high profile debates is taking a pass. Says the Star’s managing editor Mary Deanne Shears, “We didn’t see it as the same contentious issue as last time.”
