Ontario has reported 3,270 new cases of COVID-19, the third time that the number of new daily cases has surpassed the 3,000 mark in the past week.
Of the new cases, 917 are in Toronto. Making the numbers more disconcerting is the fact the province completed just 39,121 tests in the past 24 hours after completing a record number of tests over the weekend.
An additional 29 people died in the past day from the virus, with residents in long-term care accounting for 14 of the reported deaths. A total of 265 people have died in the past week.
As of yesterday, 41,983 vaccinations have been administered in the province.
There are now 1,190 people hospitalized with the virus in Ontario as of January 4, with 333 patients in intensive care. Of those patients, 194 are on ventilators.
To date, there have been 194,232 cases of COVID-19 in the province, including 164775 resolved – up 2,074 from the day before. A total of 4,679 people have died.
