Ontario reported 977 new cases of COVID-19 and nine new deaths on November 1.
The province surpassed 1,000 daily new cases on Saturday for the second time in a week, reaching 1,015. There were 896 new infections on Friday and 934 on Thursday.
The four regional hotspots still account for just under 800 of all new cases, with 279 new cases in Toronto, 238 in Peel, 130 in Ottawa and 113 in York Region.
Active cases and hospitalizations are both up from Saturday, hitting 7,981 cases and 350 patients in hospital. That’s 30 more than Saturday’s count of 320. Seventy-two patients are in intensive care and 46 are on ventilators.
The province completed 37,133 tests in the past 24 hours, marking a 2.6 per cent positivity rate. There’s a backlog of 23,933 testing specimens.
There are 74 long-term care homes currently in outbreak, according to Minister of Long-term Care Merrilee Fullerton on Twitter.
“There are 38 homes considered in outbreak with no resident cases in the home. There are 36 homes with resident cases of which 18 have fewer than 5 cases each,” she wrote.
Four of the new deaths recorded today were among long-term care residents.
There have been 76,707 total cases of COVID-19 in Ontario to date, including 65,581 resolved – up 864 from the day before. There have been 3,145 deaths.
