Silver medal for Canadian patriots

We’re number two! There’s something to be proud about. Our second place finish is in a poll conducted by the made-up sounding Reputation Institute, which polled people in 33 countries to determine our “trust, admiration, respect and pride” in our country.

Who’s number one? You might thing it’s the flag-happy US of A. We just love jabbing at their patriotism, whether it’s worn on their sleeves, affixed to their shack or on their dogs.

But you’d be wrong. Australia takes top spot. The US is in the middle of the pack behind places like France, China and, Austria.

The Economist suggests America’s drop on the list is probably tied to the recession. Does that mean Canadians’ high position means we’re looking forward to a trust-worthy, respectful government deserving of our pride? Maybe, but it likely won’t be this fall. Move over at the bottom there, Japan.
