Many Spotify Canada users are upset with the music streaming platform for reportedly increasing its subscription prices starting in December.

On Wednesday, an email was reportedly sent to Spotify Premium subscribers stating that its subscription price would be going up from $10.99 a month to $12.69 a month, plus applicable taxes.

“We’re increasing the price of Premium Individual so that we can continue to innovate on our product offerings and features,” the email read.

Currently, Spotify’s website reflects the change, as well as its updates for each type of premium plan. For instance, student pricing is now $6.39 a month, which was previously $5.99, while duo pricing is at $17.89, up from $14.99. Family plans also went up to $20.99 from $16.99.

The last time Canadians experienced a price increase from the music company was back in July 2023.

Following news of the price hike, many Spotify users took to X to share their frustrations.

“Spotify increasing price, Apple Music prepare to welcome me back,” one X user said.

“The price of Netflix and Spotify have literally become out f*****g rageous,” another user said.

“Oh, @Spotify, you’re increasing your premium price again. I better not hear ONE F*****G AD DURING ANY MORE PODCASTS,” another user commented.

Now Toronto reached out to Spotify Canada for comment but have yet to hear a response.

The price change for Premium Individual will be in effect as of December. Customers have the option to change or cancel their plans before the price increases.
