The Beer Store says it will be closing 10 more of its locations across the Greater Toronto Area in September, after announcing store closures earlier this year.
On Monday, the beer company said it would be closing more stores in Toronto, Markham, Milton, Scarborough, Burlington, and Hamilton as of Sept. 14.
The move comes after the Canadian company said it would be modernizing its operations to successfully compete with other retail networks.
“The retail market for beer is changing in Ontario and for The Beer Store that means making the difficult decision to close some retail locations,” Ozzie Ahmed, vice president retail, The Beer Store (TBS), said in a news release on Monday.
In May and June, the company said it would be closing locations as of July 20 and Aug. 24 in Ajax, Richmond Hill, and Toronto.
“This is not an easy decision and not one we make lightly.”
Meanwhile, the retailer says “all efforts” will be made to support its employees amid ongoing closures, citing that it recognizes the contributions of its employees to the business and the respective communities they serve.
As some communities lose nearby TBS locations, the company emphasized that its focus remains on sustainability and its provincewide bottle return program, as more than 1.6 billion alcohol containers are processed through its return system annually.
Those who purchase from the retailer are being encouraged to continue using return options at other Beer Store locations or authorized empty return dealers.
The following Beer Store retail locations will be permanently shut down by Sept. 14.

- Deep River 3322 5 Hwy. 17.
- Hamilton 229 Dundurn St. S.
- Northbrook 12334 Hwy. 41.
- Ottawa 1910 St. Laurent Blvd.
- Ridgetown Erie St. S, 21 Hwy.
- Sioux Lookout 41 Front St.
Founded and owned by Ontario-based brewers, TBS is the largest beer retailer in Ontario. It currently operates a wide distribution network and employs approximately 6,500 Ontarians.
