The five best outdoor community events this week

Admit it, summer is winding down. Sure, we’ve got one more long weekend ahead of us, but the days of outdoor festivals, street parties, patio hangs and park splash pads are numbered. It’s with that slightly sad yet determined spirit that we round up the best outdoor community fun this week. So grab your friends, family and kiddos and make the most of these lingering sunny days.

CICS Garden Fun Fair

The Centre for Immigration and Community Services hosts its fourth annual Garden Fun Fair on August 26 from 4:30 to 7:30 pm. The free, all-ages event happens at CICS’s Scarborough head office at 2330 Midland Avenue. The outdoor fair includes kids’ activities, face painting, live entertainment, mini-workshops, organized games and prizes. Food vendors representing diverse cuisines will also be on hand. See listing for details.

Bloorcourt Arts and Crafts Fair

Bloor West is closed between Montrose to Dufferin for pedestrian traffic only on August 27 for the Bloorcourt Arts and Crafts Festival. The free family event kicks off at noon and runs until 10 pm. Find neighbourhood pop-up stalls, vintage goods and artisan wares for sale, as well as food and drink vendors. Live music includes performances by Sam Cash and the Romantic Dogs, Bamboo, Foolish Heart, The Bettys and Pins & Needles, and kids’ activities include rides, games and entertainment from James Funnyhat. See listing for details.

Trinity Bellwoods Do Learn

The Trinity Bellwoods BIA presents a day of pop-up workshops called Do Learn on August 27. The event runs from 12 to 5 pm at the Dundas-Manning Community Garden (at the corner of Dundas West and Manning), where workshops include life drawing classes from #Hashtag Gallery, nail art from Wow Wow Nails, chocolate tasting from Odile Chocolat, pot painting and planting, bunting flag making, urban beekeeping with Toronto Urban Beekeeping Association and ink making with Mobile Ink Factory. Visit the Trinity Bellwoods website for details.

Danforth East Laneway Crawl

The laneway crawl in Danforth East is part of a summer series organized by the Laneway Project. So far, three neighbourhoods have been highlighted, and the event on August 28 from 1 to 5 pm takes place in the east-west laneway north of Danforth Avenue between Woodbine and Woodmount. The event includes live mural painting by various artists, art installations and vendors, Zumba and line dancing, games, live music, food vendors, face painting and a scavenger hunt. See listing for details.

Taste of Regent Park

This weekly food festival takes place at Regent Park on August 31 starting at 5 pm. The free, all-ages event includes a community-catered meal highlighting a different regional cuisine each week. Enjoy live music and family entertainment as you enjoy your meal, and stay past dusk for the Regent Park Film Festival. See listing for details.
