An Ontario woman who made headlines a few years ago thanks to her massive Barbie doll collection is making a major comeback in the news now that the live-action adaptation of Barbie”has officially hit theatres.

Elizabeth Kondruss is the woman behind the extraordinary collection of over 20,000 dolls and accessories in her collection.

She got her first doll in 1969 when she was nine years old and reportedly has one of the biggest collections in Canada, and possibly the world.

Kondruss also has 1,000 dolls on sale that are mostly duplicates, allowing her to feel at ease with letting them go.

In 2014, she told a local newspaper that her dolls are insured and that her favourite Barbie dolls are the ones her parents and grandparents gifted her with, as well as the first Barbie she bought herself back in 1972 for $2.72 in Ottawa.

When I retire I’m going to have a full large Barbie museum and hopefully have my 20 to 24,000 pieces on display at that time,” Kondruss told Now Toronto in an email statement.

And two sons will inherit the collection at this point unless I make other arrangements it will be up to them to decide what to do with it.”
