The Toronto Public Library (TPL) has restored some services on its website as it continues to recover from a cyberattack that destroyed its network for nearly three months.
On Monday, the library tweeted that its website is back online once again. Services such as eResources, programs and branches are available to access.
However, other services such as user accounts, the library catalogue and search aren’t available just yet. The library says it’s still working to restore these and other services and expects to have them back later in February.
“Restoring systems and services across 100 library branches is a complex undertaking. Full and safe recovery is a gradual process, and we’re working to ensure full restoration as soon as possible,” the library said on its website.
Back on Oct. 23, the library was impacted by a cyberattack that led to the personal information of employees being exposed.
Currently, the library is using a dozen offsite trailers to temporarily store returned books until they can be processed electronically into the library’s system.
The TPL is responsible for 100 branches and serves over 18.5 million people every year.
“We’re just as eager as you are for things to get back to normal. Full recovery is a gradual process, and the end is in sight. Thanks so much for sticking with us!” the library said.
