What to know

  • Toronto could break its Nov. 4 temperature record, with a high of 21ºC forecast for Wednesday.
  • The previous record high for the date was 20.6ºC, set in 1903.
  • The city reached 20ºC on Tuesday, Nov. 3, although it did not break the daily record of 23.3ºC set in 1961.
  • Toronto also broke a temperature record on Oct. 29, reaching 23ºC and surpassing the previous record of 21.7ºC set in 1946.
  • Unseasonably warm temperatures are expected to continue throughout the week, alongside showers and gradually declining temperatures.

After breaking a record for the warmest Oct. 29 ever, Toronto could hit another heat milestone today, as unseasonably warm temperatures continue to hit the city.

Halloween has passed and some residents have even started to put their Christmas decorations up, but the weather is still giving no signs that winter is anywhere around the corner.

Following an unseasonably warm October, November is expected to continue the warm pattern, with temperatures still well into the positive double digits forecasted to hit the city well into the month.

The city could hit a weather milestone today, with this Nov. 4 forecasted to be the hottest one on record. According to the Environment Canada forecast, the city could see a high of 21ºC today; if that happens, the city would break its record heat for Nov. 4, which was previously 20.6ºC in 1903, according to the Extreme Weather Watch.

The possible temperature record comes after temperatures hit 20ºC on Nov. 3. Although it did not break the record of 23.3 °C set in 1961, the high was still abnormal for this time of the year, with Extreme Weather Watch data indicating an average high of 10.5ºC is usually seen on this day.

The abnormally high temperatures come after Toronto had already hit a weather record last month, registering a high of 23ºC on Oct. 29, breaking the previous temperature record of 21.7ºC for the day, seen in 1946.
