What to know

  • Multiple TTC elevators are out of service at stations including Bessarion, Dupont, St. Clair, and Victoria Park.
  • Repairs are scheduled from mid-February to late May.
  • Riders with disabilities continue to face challenges, as out-of-order elevators can disrupt travel.
  • The TTC is expanding its Easier Access Program, aiming to make all 70 subway stations fully accessible with elevators, doors, and updated signage by 2028.

Elevators at several Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) stations are currently out of order, including Bessarion, Dupont, St. Andrew, St. Clair and Victoria Park, and some repairs won’t be completed until May.

According to the transit commissioner, elevator service at these stops will resume on various timelines ranging from mid-February to late May, depending on the work required.

In addition to scheduled maintenance, elevators can occasionally experience short, unplanned disruptions, a TTC spokesperson told Now Toronto in an email on Thursday. All planned and unplanned service outages are posted and updated on the TTC’s Accessibility Alerts page, which lists both the latest information on disruptions and advice on accessible alternatives.

“Our mobile elevator technicians work across the system daily to respond quickly and keep equipment operating safely and reliably,” the spokesperson explained.

This comes not long after a North York man launched a petition calling for better accessibility measures on the transit service, sharing his frustrations with broken TTC elevators that he says caused his grandfather, who uses a mobility aid and cannot use stairs, to miss a medical appointment.

The TTC is currently in the process of implementing its Easier Access Program, dedicated to improving the accessibility standards of all stations, taking measures such as installing elevators, accessible doors, and updated signage at all stations.

As of January 2026, there are elevators at 63 of the city’s 70 subway stations, with Spadina, Greenwood, College, Museum, King, and Islington stations all expected to have elevators installed by the end of the year. Old Mill’s accessibility updates, including elevator installation, are scheduled for completion by the end of 2028.
