Upfront: Get Stuffed

Rating: NNNNN

A recent “media release” apparently put out by the Quebec justice department (actually, it was a spoof written and released by the coordinator of the Ottawa-based Coalition to Oppose the Arms Trade) is concerned about the proliferation of teddy bear violence in wake of the Quebec protests.”It is astounding that anybody can walk into a thrift shop, Salvation Army or toy store and buy, without a licence or background check, as many stuffed animals as they want,” the release says. “That is why we are working with Parliament to enact strong teddy bear legislation to ensure that teddy bears do not fall into the hands of criminals.”

Of course, the NTBA (National Teddy Bear Association) argues that teddy bears don’t kill cops and that this latest hysteria is part of a government plot to strip law-abiding citizens of their Gund-given right to bear cuddle.
