In what we’ll call a classist decision, the LCBO has taken malt liquor off the shelves of its St. Lawrence store at Front and Market at the request of prudish locals worried about public drinking in St. James parkette. Apparently, high-alcohol beers and malt liquor were the second-highest-selling product on Saturday mornings. The highest? Expensive wine, which the St. Lawrence Neighborhood Bulletin explains away as “market shoppers taking advantage of the early-opening hours.” A likely tale. We demand that all high-end wines be removed as well so we don’t have drunk rich folk smashing their BMWs into unsuspecting malt liquor drinkers.
