We're in the wrong business here. Consulting for City Hall is where the big money is. Think about it: if you know the right senior staff, you can win a contract without competing, charge the city way more than your contract allows, bill lavish meals and plane flights, no questions asked. And by the time they do finally take a look, you're practically a millionaire.
After a recent investigation by the city auditor, councillors were shocked to learn of one such long-term contract that a U.S. consultant had landed with the finance department. So blinded were the pols that they apparently didn't notice that NOW had reported on the questionable contract in detail two years ago.
