Looking for a mesmerizing display of physical comedy? Then catch Falling Awake by Vancouver’s Nayana Fielkov and Matthew “Poki” McCorkle. The non-linear show about a woman looking to communicate with her dead lover toys with reality and dreams, and lets the performers display their many talents in dance, mime, clowning, magic and mask work.

Fielkov brings whimsy in a sensual bit where a suit jacket mimicking a man ravages her body. McCorkle elicits several gasps during his contortion work with a small metal ring. A few segments don’t pay off in the end sometimes they feel like the performers are showing off their skills rather than illustrating the relationship between the two lovers.

Still, Falling Awake is a unique journey where reality bends so delightfully you almost feel like you’ve fallen into a surreal dreamscape.
