Northeast of Victoria, you’ll find small, cute towns that suit your budget. Parksville and Qualicum Beach are known for long, sandy beaches and family-friendly resorts, farm tours, and the North Island Wildlife Recovery in nearby Errington.

Seafood lovers can also enjoy Campbell River, the salmon capital of the world, with world-class fishing and wildlife-viewing tours. Surfers can also head west to Tofino for world-class surfing. But if you want water and beach activities without massive surf, the east coast offers calm, clear waters ideal for swimming, paddleboarding, and kayaking. Many spas also offer mineral pools and barrel saunas, including at Naturally Pacific Resort and at Grotto Spa.

For nature lovers, provincial parks such as Elk Falls and Englishmen River Falls offer free entry for hiking and waterfall viewing. Other wildlife activities include spotting swimming orcas and marine life in the Salish Sea and Discovery Passage, or visiting Cathedral Grove in McMillan Provincial Park to walk among 800-year-old Douglas fir trees.

Finally, wine lovers can visit Duncan and the Cowichan Valley, a semi-rural agricultural and wine region that bridges country farms, local eateries, and heritage towns.
