A Vancouver resident is calling out Loblaw after discovering his frozen produce allegedly weighs a lot less than what was advertised.

On Tuesday, TikTok user Jacob MacLellan (@jmaclellan) posted a video saying he picked up a frozen vegetable package claiming to weigh 750 grams. However, upon weighting it at home, the package was actually 434 grams.

“We are being screwed really bad and I think that Canada needs to engage with our French side sooner or later and introduce Galen Weston to something that I’d like to call cake (referring to the French revolution phrase, ‘let them eat cake’),” MacLellan said.

Under the video, many users in the comments are not surprised by the experience and even said they have heard of similar occurrences.

“We need to keep the Loblaws boycott going. These guys are crooks. Non stop nickel and diming,” the top comment read.

“How is this not a lawsuit,” another comment read.

“Bring your scale to the store and call the manager and start weighing stuff,” another user suggested.

“And it should be 750 before the package weight. I’ve been seeing more and more of these videos recently,” another user said.

In response, a Loblaw spokesperson says they have reached out to MacLellan and are investigating the incident.

“We stand behind our products and want our customers to feel good about the quality and value they receive. We’ve reached out to the customer to get information about the product so we can investigate as that obviously does not meet our standards. That said, at any point if a customer is also not satisfied with a no name product, they can return or exchange it,” they said in a statement to Now Toronto on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, on the “Loblaws is out of control” Reddit group, community members of the movement have voted overwhelmingly to extend their month-long boycott indefinitely.

Last week, organizers conducted a poll asking its members about post-May plans. The poll found that nearly 60 per cent of members voted to extend the boycott indefinitely, while less than two per cent voted to end the boycott as of June 1.

Currently, thousands of people have been boycotting Loblaw-owned businesses for the month of May. The community says it has grown tired of the grocery giant’s rising grocery prices and thereby avoiding the establishment altogether in an effort to force their hand and lower their costs.

“The community has spoken and shown great support for extending the boycott and remaining focused on Loblaw. We look forward to seeing our impact once Q2 financials are released,” reads a statement by the boycott organizers.

“This statement reflects the collective determination of a community fed up with the disparity between rising grocery prices and the record profits reported by companies like Loblaw,” it continued.
