Take a deep dive into a hypnotic and immersive experience of space and wonder at the Distillery District’s upcoming new exhibition, Illuminarium.

American entertainment company Illuminarium has partnered with Toronto-based VR studio Secret Location to bring its first ever immersive experience Canadian location to the Distillery District.

The massive 13,500 square-foot complex will open with two mesmerizing spectacles, along with a 19+ After Dark experience on weekends. This marks the third location of Illuminarium in North America, after Atlanta and Las Vegas.

Illuminarium’s partner, Secret Location, is an Emmy award-winning interactive VR and AR company that aims to use cutting edge technology to tell compelling stories. What makes Toronto’s Illuminarium different from other immersive experiences is that it will highlight Canada’s incredible digital talent through adventures that Canadians will be able to witness first.

“Toronto is booming with entertainment creation so it was a natural fit for us to open up our first Canadian experience here. We look forward to showcasing our unparalleled immersive offerings with exclusive content pieces as well as the entertainment programming we have in our U.S. locations,” Illuminarium Experiences CEO Alan Greenberg said in a news release on Wednesday.

Illuminarium is expected to blow guests away by activating all their senses in a way they haven’t felt before. Illuminarium is described as a “virtual reality, without the glasses” experience that will heightened how one sees, hears, feels and smells.

The entertainment complex will debut with two all ages shows:

SPACE: A JOURNEY TO THE MOON & BEYOND

This exhibition is an intergalactic journey that will include stunning imagery from the James Webb Telescope through the lens of Illuminarium’s state of the art tech and 360-degree screens. Guests will see planets like Nebula, Saturn, the moon and even an asteroid belt.

WAKING WONDERLAND

Guests will go down the famous rabbit hole inspired by the world in Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland. This dream-like quest will transport guests to the magical universe where they can meet colourful characters, chase the Cheshire Cat through the magical forest, stir things up in the Mad Hatter’s tea factory, and tiptoe into the throne room to awaken the Queen of Hearts.

In addition, the adults-only Space After Dark experience is set to open in September. Guests over the age of 19 can enjoy innovative cocktails served by futuristic robots, and dance to live music.

Illuminarium also plans to bring other themed experiences to The Distillery District, such as a safari, rock and roll, dinosaurs and more.

Canada’s first Illuminarium opens on Aug. 25 at 28 Distillery Lane.

For tickets to Illuminarium, guests can join the waitlist on its website.
