Here’s all the free events happening at Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre this summer

In honour of its golden jubilee, Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre has unveiled an exciting lineup with a mix of free, ticketed and pay-what-you-wish events for this summer, promising unforgettable experiences for all.

“With a jam-packed summer schedule of events, Harbourfront Centre promises to provide transformative experiences to neighbours and visitors alike, sparking unforgettable moments to cherish at its waterfront,” Laura McLeod, director of Cultural Engagement at Harbourfront Centre, said in a statement. 

The festivities kick off on June 1 with a 50th Anniversary Block Party featuring a live performance by Canadian alternative country band Elliott Brood, interactive opportunities like singing with the Good Enough Live Karaoke band, free social line dancing classes, family-friendly activities, street food, drinks, and a birthday cake.

Free flicks outdoors

Want to enjoy free movie screenings outdoors? One of the city’s favourite summer traditions is returning to the Concert Stage every Tuesday starting June 25, showcasing popular films and old-school classics for two months.

Dancing on the Square

For dance lovers, head to the new Public Square to enjoy live dances ranging from Latin, Bollywood, hip-hop and contemporary starting Wednesday, July 10 until Aug. 28.

Summer Music in the Garden

Enjoy summer music at the Toronto Music Garden every Thursday and Sunday starting June 21 with over 18 free concerts, including the National Youth Orchestra of Canada, Moneka Arabic Jazz and Nichol Robertson’s Country All-Stars.

Canada Day weekend activities

For the Canada Day long weekend, there will be a variety of family-friendly activities including pay-what-you-wish performances by Canadian singers Fefe Dobson and Tyler Shaw on June 28 and ticketed shows by Choir! Choir! Choir! on June 29. Free performances are scheduled for  June 30 and July 1 by Nicaraguan-Canadian comedian Marthan Chaves, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, Canadian blues and country artist Crystal Shawanda, and more.

Island Soul Festival

Between Aug. 1 and 5, celebrate the Caribbean culture and its people at the 26th edition of the Island Soul Festival that includes Comedy Night with Trixx and Friends, Destra and DJ Power, and free performances on Aug. 3 by Johnny Osbourne and rock band The Clash! On Aug. 4, grab $40 tickets to see Sean Jones’ Summer Soul at 11 p.m., or catch free performances by Jamaican reggae singer and Grammy-nominee Etana, and Jamaican-Canadian musician Jay Douglas.

Multicultural Festivals

Harbourfront Centre’s multicultural festivals, including Habari Africa, TAIWANfest, Toronto International Tap Dance Festival, and Fun Philippines Toronto Food & Music Festival, will also return, offering a vibrant exploration of the country’s diverse cultures.
