From a startling encounter with a lightning fast foul ball to an unexpected invitation from the Toronto Blue Jays, Liz McGuire’s May 17 mishap has become the buzz of the town among Jays fans.
Taking to X, McGuire recounted her brush with a 110mph foul off Jays shortstop Bo Bichette’s bat, humorously lamenting, “I didn’t even get the ball.”
Alongside her tweet, she shared snapshots of her swollen forehead outside Rogers Centre and the subsequent black and blue eye.
The Blue Jays informed Now Toronto that medical staff promptly attended to McGuire on-site, and despite the mishap, she opted to stay for the remainder of the game.
“The Blue Jays followed up with the fan and invited her to be our guest at an upcoming game and offered her a signed ball from Bo Bichette, ” a spokesperson said in an email to Now Toronto.
Following McGuire’s viral post, a fellow X user suggested she should receive a “Topps right now card.” Surprisingly, the collectible card company responded by revealing that it crafted “exactly 110 copies” of a custom Topps Now trading card featuring Liz McGuire and is gifting them all to her.
Concerned X users inquired about McGuire’s well-being, with one sharing their son’s similar experience with a baseball injury. McGuire reassured them, stating she promptly visited the nearest hospital for assessment after the game. Responding to another X user, she confirmed “face scans came back a-okay!!”
