Canadian actress Nina Dobrev playfully made fun of herself during a recent appearance on a podcast after she mispronounced the name of her hometown.

On July 19, The Vampire Diaries star appeared on the Podcrushed podcast to discuss her Bulgarian roots, Canadian upbringing and her brief stint as a gymnast on the national Canadian team.

Dobrev was born in Bulgaria, but raised in Toronto’s eastern suburb, Scarborough.

While recalling her experiences growing up in the suburbs, Dobrev mistakenly tripped over her words, but quickly checked herself for sounding out the second “T” in Toronto, which locals famously drop and instead say “Toronno.”

“We lived in the suburbs of Toronto…I sound so foreign, I’ve been away from home for too long,” Dobrev joked.

A TikTok video of the moment has received over 746,000 views as of Thursday afternoon. Plenty of people took to the comments to back her correction.

Prime Video Canada commented “Real ones know, it’s TURRUNO.”

“Hahahahaha she corrected herself real quick.” Another user said

“As a Torontonian, I fully judged her when I listened to the pod and was relieved when she corrected,” one user wrote.

Hosted by Penn Badgley, known for his lead role in You, Nava Kavelin, and Sophie Ansari, Podcrushed is self-described as “the podcast where Penn Badgley reads your middle school story,” and boasts more than 55,000 YouTube subscribers and 530,000 TikTok followers.

The podcast explores stories of middle school days, “from childhood crushes to battles with body hair to schoolyard scuffles,” resulting in an inevitably awkward yet endearing display of deeply relatable chit-chat.

Podcrushed airs every Wednesday and is available to stream on Spotify, YouTube and Apple Podcasts.
