Toronto was in for not one but two treats over the weekend, courtesy of Ed Sheeran.
First, the award-winning British singer surprised fans by making an appearance at the Taste of Little Italy festival on College Street on Sunday afternoon.
Sheeran was strolling around wearing a white T-shirt, baseball cap and sunglasses, according to videos by marketing agency Hypitch. In the videos posted on its Instagram story, the singer is seen getting out of his car and making his way in, as fans cheered him on.
It wasn’t long until he was surrounded by a swarm of excited fans, eager to catch a glimpse. Among the crowd was Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland who shook hands with the singer.
Then on Saturday night, Sheeran unveiled his second surprise at his concert at Rogers Centre when he brought out Shawn Mendes as his special guest.
The Canadian singer shocked fans when he joined Sheeran to sing his song “Lego House.” The pair also went on to perform Mendes’ 2016 hit “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back”.
In a video posted by Sheeran on Twitter, Mendes admits he was shaking because it was his first onstage performance in a year and a half.
In 2022, the 24-year-old star cancelled the remainder of his “Wonder” world tour dates to take care of his mental health.
