Videos of Drake driving an ice truck through Toronto to promote his new song have Torontonians talking and supporting a local business.
Fans were shocked to see Drake pulling up to Toronto’s Sankofa Square, formerly known as Yonge and Dundas Square, over the weekend while driving an Iceman truck.
Shortly after 9 p.m. on Friday, the rapper recorded the moment in a livestream named ICEMAN EPISODE 1 to promote his new song, “What Did I Miss?”, after dropping several teasers on his Instagram over the past few days and a billboard near the Eaton Centre.
The first few minutes of the livestream video, which is nearly an hour long, showcase The Iceman’s warehouse, a local ice provider located along Adelaide St. W. near Niagara St.
The livestream goes on to show vintage clips of Drake walking around Toronto and interacting with fans in his early career years. It then shows a clip of the video for the artist’s new song.
The second half of the video follows Drake behind the wheel of The Iceman truck, driving around the city while listening to music, when he is then spotted by fans who gathered around him.
Fans are now reacting to the video online, and applauding Drake for the creative initiative.
“You know you’re a die-hard fan when you can watch your favorite artist drive around the city in a random delivery truck 🧊for an hour… Love our boyyyyyy 🦉in our city ❤️,” one YouTube user said.
“The second half of the video driving through the city is a vibe, all of the songs hit and [there] was cool footage,” another fan added.
“Appreciate you showing how a 9-5 saves lives. Nothing wrong with an honest living. Thanks Iceman,” a user also wrote.
“This gotta be the dopest/most creative surprise rollout for an album ever 🙌🏾🔥,” a different user added.
But Drake is not the only one to receive recognition from fans after the video dropped. The business that owns the ice truck, The Iceman, has also gained a significant rise in attention after appearing in the clip.
The Iceman has been in the business for over 25 years, providing ice, dry ice, ice machines and custom ice around the GTA.
Shortly after Drake’s video spotlighted the truck with the company’s contact number on it, the business owner Jake Silva revealed to media outlets that he started to get hundreds of phone calls from across North America, with some even asking if they could use his warehouse space for other video shoots.
“What Did I Miss?” is Drake’s first release since his February single “$ome $exy $ongs 4U,” and the rapper hasn’t yet confirmed a release date for his next album, Iceman.
