An event in support of young adult mental health is taking place in Toronto next month.
The Awesome Music Project‘s (AMP) summer kick-off event at the newly renovated El Mocambo in Toronto is on June 21.
The event, which coincides with the first day of summer, is a night exploring the transformative power of music through the sharing of stories, songs and science.
General admission tickets are $90, while limited VIP packages with pre-show reception access, a swag bag and balcony seating are $200.
Doors open at 7:00 p.m. and the show begins at 8:00 p.m.
This year, under the theme “Stories, Songs & Science: A Salute to Frankie,” AMP pays tribute to Frankie Commisso, a young musician who passed away by suicide in 2021. Commisso’s sister, Erica, is a writer and will be in attendance to join the tribute.
The intimate evening of storytelling will be hosted by actor, writer and content creator Sharron Matthews, from Frankie Drake Mysteries.
A number of Canadian musicians will be making an appearance, including Juno-nominated multi-platinum singer-songwriters Fefe Dobson and Tyler Shaw, award-winning singer, songwriter and producer Danny Michel, vocalist and American Idol top five finalist in 2022 Nicolina, and author, activist and musician Antonio Michael Downing.
AMP is dedicated to accelerating awareness, research, and solutions related to music and mental wellness, according to its website.
Proceeds raised by AMP’s summer kick-off will help support the Awesome Music Hour at Stella’s Place, a Toronto-based mental health services provider for young adults.
