What to know

  • K-pop group BTS have announced their comeback with a 79-date world tour
  • The tour will stop in Toronto Aug. 22 and 23 at Rogers Stadium in Downsview Park
  • The group’s seven members took a break for four years to complete South Korea’s mandatory military service

After a four-year hiatus, K-pop’s biggest group, BTS, has announced a mammoth 79-date world tour.

With two dates in Toronto at Rogers Stadium in Downsview Park on Aug. 22 and 23, and dates in the United States, Europe, Asia and Mexico, this is shaping up to be their biggest tour to date, as the group haven’t played shows in Canada or the US since the fall of 2018.

Presale for the “Army Membership” tier starts at 1:00 p.m. EST on Jan. 22. Tickets will be on sale to the general public at 1:00 p.m. EST on Jan. 24.

In the summer of 2022, the group officially went on hiatus as each member — Jimin, Jin, J-Hope, Jungkook, RM, Suga and V — had to complete 18-months of military service as mandated by the South Korean government.

Two weeks ago, Big Hit Music — the label representing BTS — announced on popular South Korean social media platform Weverse the group’s upcoming tenth studio album — The Fifth Album — out Mar. 20, writing, “The new album holds special significance as it marks the first album released by the group in three years and nine months, while also indicating the direction the group will take going forward. The members were deeply involved in the creation of the songs, infusing their own thoughts and colors into them while musically expressing the emotions and struggles they have experienced along their journey.”

The group’s new era came on New Year’s Day when they wiped their social media accounts and announced the release date for their new album. Fans — who are nicknamed ARMY — scrambled to find out more information, accidentally crashing Weverse.
