What to know
- Most grocery stores and the LCBO will be closed on Monday, Sept. 7, although some grocery, Beer Store and Wine Rack locations will remain open.

Torontonians are in for a long weekend, with Labour Day happening on Monday, Sept. 7.
Whether you are looking to enjoy the last few days of summer vacation before going back to school or just taking an extra day off, here’s what you need to know about what’s open and closed during the holiday in the city.
Grocery stores
Those planning to cook a Labour Day meal might have to plan ahead, as most grocery stores will be closed on Monday.
Some Shoppers Drug Mart locations will be closed, while others will remain open during the holiday. To find out which will be operating, residents can access the store locator.
All Rabba Fine Foods locations which operate 24/7 will also be open during Labour Day. Similarly, all Kitchen Table locations are expected to remain operational.
Other stores expected to remain open include:
- Farm Boy at 207 Queens Quay W. from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Farm Boy at 100 Queens Quay E. from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
- Metro at College Park (444 Yonge St.) from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- Some Loblaws locations
- Whole Foods at Square One (155 Square One Dr.) from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Eataly Yorkville from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Alcohol stores
All LCBO stores will be closed during Labour Day.
Meanwhile, some Beer Store locations will be open from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. To find open locations, customers can visit the store’s website.
Some Wine Rack stores will also be open, including:
- 746 King St. W. from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
- 77 Wellesley St. E. from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.
- 1018 Queen St. W. from 12 p.m. to 11 p.m.
- 1298 Bloor St. W. from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
- 1862 Danforth Ave. from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Shopping malls
Some malls will be operating in modified hours during the holiday, including:
- Toronto Eaton Centre (220 Yonge St.) from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Vaughan Mills (1 Bass Pro Mills Dr.) from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
- Square One (100 City Centre Dr., Mississauga) from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Dufferin Mall, Yorkdale Mall, CF Fairview Mall, and Scarborough Town Centre, will be closed during Labour Day.
Transit operating on holiday schedule
The TTC will operate on a holiday schedule on Labour Day, which is the same as the Sunday service schedule, but starting at 6 a.m.
Subway Lines 1, 2 and 4 will operate from 6 a.m. to 1:30 a.m., while Line 5 Eglinton LRT will run from 5:30 a.m. to 1:20 a.m. and Line 6 Finch West LRT from 7 a.m. and 1 a.m.
Schedules are different for each streetcar and bus route, and can be found on the TTC website.
Most GO Transit routes will operate on a Saturday schedule during Labour Day, with exceptions for some lines.
Government offices, banks, libraries
Service Canada, Service Ontario, and municipal offices will be closed on Labour Day.
All physical bank branches will also be closed.
Similarly, Toronto Public Library locations will be closed on Monday.
Tourist attractions
Several tourist attractions will remain open during Labour Day, including:
- CN Tower (290 Bremner Blvd.) from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
- Ripley’s Aquarium (288 Bremner Blvd.) from 9 a.m. to 11 p.m.
- Art Gallery of Ontario (317 Dundas St W.) from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Royal Ontario Museum (100 Queens Park) from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
- Canada’s Wonderland (1 Canada’s Wonderland Dr., Vaughan) from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Toronto Zoo (2000 Meadowvale Rd., Scarborough) from 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
- Casa Loma (1 Austin Terrace) 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Labour Day also marks the last day of the Canadian National Exhibition (CNE), which will be open with modified hours.

On Monday, the festival will operate from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m, with gates opening until 5 p.m. and online admission tickets available until 2 p.m.
The Adult Midway and the Kiddie Midway will operate from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., while the Kid’s World will remain open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
